The Impossibility of Evolution
Today happens to be Mole Day.
Mole Day? There’s a day that celebrates the little critters messing up my lawn? Or are we talking about the blemishes many of us get on our bodies?
Neither! A mole is a unit of measurement used in science, typically in chemistry.
A mole of H2O weighs about 2/3 oz; a gallon of H2O is about 210 moles.
Why have a day remembering this? It gives scientists and science educators something to do. Mainly to give an opportunity to teach about such things.
Why choose today, Oct. 23? Because a mole contains 6.022 × 1023 molecules [1 gal H2O contains 1.3 × 1026 molecules of H2O – 130 septillion]. We focus on 1023, saying it’s 10-23, Oct. 23. Some will even go so far as to say it’s only between 6:02 AM and 6:02 PM. This number is known as Avogadro’s number (not avocado’s).
Bigger question: why am I talking about this here with you? Avogadro’s number is really big, which is a clumsy segue into other really big numbers in science that should concern us.
Many people think there is a conflict between science vs. the Bible.
This is not true.
The conflict is between evolutionists vs. creationists.
We all have the same data—the issue is how we interpret that data.
There are many scientists who do not buy into the claims of evolution—not all of them are Christians, or even profess to be!
Both evolutionists and creationists have underlying assumptions.
Evolutionists assume there is no God, so we must have come here through completely natural means.
Creationists believe God does exist and the Bible is His infallible Word that says exactly how we got here.
There are some middle ground positions: e.g. theistic evolution, intelligent design.
For the sake of simplicity we will only consider evolution vs. creation.
The key is to challenge these assumptions.
Some of these assumptions cannot be challenged through science but through philosophy and theology.
One principle in science is known as Occam’s Razor.
It states: “of two competing theories, the simpler explanation of an entity is to be preferred” (Encyclopædia Britannica).
This is not a hard and fast rule, but it did lead us to a heliocentric model of the solar system.
This was not confirmed until the space age in the 20th century.
I bring this up because of the large numbers we’re about to consider.
Some statistics on the likelihood of life forming naturally by random chance.
These facts and probabilities were not known by Charles Darwin when he developed his theory of evolution.
The likelihood of life specific amino acids forming: 1:106021.
The correct amino acid in the right place: 1:1013,010.
The smallest functional bacterium: 1:1033,113.
The correct genetic material in the right place: 1:1060,155.
The correct gene sequence: 1:10528.
All together, this gives us a probably of life forming by random chance: 1:10112,827.
That is like taking all the atoms in the visible universe, [in perspective, I have about 63 octillion (6.3 × 1028) electrons in my body. Multiply that by 1.6 × 1051 (sexdecillion). That’s about 1080 electrons in the observable universe.] and picking a single, marked electron … 1376 times in a row.
So then, which becomes more likely? Occam’s Razor.
Many scientists are aware of this statistical impossibility.
But instead of turning to an intelligent Creator, they turn to other things.
It was aliens manipulating things.
It was amino acids on the backs of crystals.
We had plenty of time for that to happen—yeah, right.
Who is the conflict between then? Evolutionists vs. Science.
We know who created the heavens and the earth.
This is evident from the very beginning of the Bible.
This is confirmed throughout the rest of Scripture.
These individuals who still promote evolution embody Romans 1:23: “Professing to be wise, they became fools.”
I pray this has built up your faith in the Bible and God’s Word.
That Word tells us we need a Savior.
And we can receive His gift of salvation today if we BRCB.

God bless all of us!
